Nestled in the peaceful archipelago of Paalasmaa, this unique lakeside retreat offers an authentic escape surrounded by the rugged beauty of Finnish nature. Located on Finland’s highest island and accessible year-round by ferry, the property consists of two separate cabins and a stunning lakeside sauna, making it ideal for families, couples or friends who value both togetherness and privacy. With no nearby neighbours, your own sandy shore and rowing boat, you can fully enjoy the silence, campfire evenings and the untouched nature of Lake Pielinen. Right next to the cabins lies a rare natural attraction — an exotic devil’s field (“pirunpelto”) filled with moss-covered stones, creating a mystical atmosphere in the surrounding forest. The area is perfect for hiking, berry and mushroom picking, relaxing sauna evenings and, in winter, enjoying the darkness and clear starry skies far away from city lights. The newer main cabin (43 m²), completed in 2023, accommodates up to 3 guests. It features a living area with a sofa bed, a curtained alcove with a double bed (160 cm), and a kitchenette with a wood-burning stove/oven, gas stove and gas refrigerator. The second cabin (43 m²) also accommodates up to 3 guests and includes a combined living and sleeping area with a double bed and single bed, a fireplace with baking oven, gas stove and gas refrigerator. This cabin also has its own wood-heated sauna, dressing room and terrace. A separate wood-heated lakeside sauna, completed in 2023, sits just 10 metres from the shore. Large panoramic windows open directly toward Lake Pielinen, allowing guests to enjoy the lake scenery while relaxing in the sauna heat. Both saunas use traditional water heating: water is carried from the lake and heated in a cauldron attached to the stove. The cabins are off-grid and powered by ecological solar electricity. Please note that there is no running water in the cabins. Both cabins have a sink and drainage system, but water must be carried manually. The owner provides drinking water at the beginning of the stay, and additional drinking water can be collected from a tap located 1.4 km away at the owner’s house. During colder seasons, the owner preheats the cabins before arrival. After that, guests are responsible for heating the cabins themselves using the fireplaces, baking ovens and gas heaters provided. In winter, the main cabin is primarily in use, while the second cabin is available upon request. Both saunas are available year-round. This peaceful cabin retreat offers a rare opportunity to disconnect from everyday routines and experience authentic Finnish cottage life in one of the most unique landscapes of the Pielinen region.
